BIO
Sunita Radia always had a story to tell...she found her voice through camera. She started her journey by assisting iconic Cinematogarpher Binod Pradhan in legendary Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Devdas. The mesmerizing imagery of this film was as stunning and as profound as to be called a poetry of frames . The next seven years were challenging as well as thrilling where she further assisted Binod Pradhan on projects like Tara Rum Pum, Munnabhai MBBS, Rang De Basanti and Heroes.
The journey truly besotted her with the medium as she saw films and their different visual interpretations being captured by the camera. Each story was unique and so was its cinematic treatment. She now knew how stories were given a visual language. Her tryst with camera had just started. She started shooting Ad-films and Music Videos, independently with prominent directors.
Sunita got her first break as a DOP in a Feature Film Aalaap-Ek Nayi Roshni. Her dreams had got wings and she was hungry to do more work. Her next project was a National Award winning film Jal which also got lot of acclaim in various International Film Festivals, then she moved on to working in a Punjabi Feature Film, Harbhajan Maan starrer Saadey CM Saab. By now she was confident of her work and was growing and evolving constantly as a cinematographer. In a male dominated world of cinematographers it was a double challenge to prove herself but she carried on unfazed, possessed with her own dreams. She loved everything about the art and was not scared to experiment.
To name a few Sunita has worked with the best in the industry and cinematographed prestigious projects like Ajay Devgan starrer Baadshaho directed by Milan Luthria, Vivek Oberoi starrer PM Narendra Modi directed by National Award winning director Omang Kumar, Urvashi Rautela starrer Hate Story-IV, Nawazuddin Siddique starrer Roam Rome Mein.
Her work has taken her to several countries and locations. Each project had its own challenges and each day on a set added to her experience. From a girl cocooned in her ultra conservative but loving environment at home to a confident professional commanding the camera department, Sunita has come a long way. She compares her life in Mumbai to a roller coaster ride thrilling, exciting and scary, all at the same time, but feels she couldn’t have asked for more... Learning from legendary Binod Pradhan to working with different directors has given her ample opportunities to hone her skill as a cinematographer which she says is a perfect amalgamation of science and art.
Sunita says that her work as a cinematographer takes her through myriad emotions like sorrow, joy , love, hate and each has its own cinematic rhythm . For her its very important to perceive different human emotions, harmonize with them and then only weave them into a visual tapestry. For her each single shot is an entity on its own.
Her journey is far from complete. Sunita still calls herself a student of cinema with much to learn. Her accomplishments and successes have just added more zeal to bring in soul into a story through her lenses... A PERFECT SHOT.
